The Ghana Farmers Alliance (GFA) fair trade programme, was a digital transformation project to transform the Sampa region’s agricultural sector by moving operations online. Partnering with IJA Commodities, the program trained farmers and connected them digitally with processing facilities, emphasising fair working conditions that exceeded international standards.
A key focus was empowering women in the value chain through online training in subsistence diversification and promoting gender equality. IJA Commodities established an online, transparent value chain, leading to a local digital processing business that provided global market access and employee bonuses.
Over 100 farmers, particularly women, benefited, boosting household incomes and contributing to societal economic well-being. The initiative’s digital approach significantly increased household incomes since its launch.
In summary, the GFA’s digital transformation initiative empowered farmers, especially women, through sustainable supply chains, driving economic growth in the Sampa region and facilitating global market access.
